THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER

Minimize
December 3, 5, 6, 2009 Curtain 8pm on December 3rd, Matinees at 2pm December 5-6.

In this hilarious Christmas tale, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids-- probably the most inventively awful kids in history. Adapted from the best selling book, you won't believe the mayhem-- and the fun-- when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head on. SSCT is proud to present this classic production in conjunction with our annual Children’s Christmas workshop.

Directed by Jennifer Burke
February 18-21, 2010   Curtain 8pm, Sunday matinee 2pm

The Page Players will be revisiting the talents of Neil Simon as we kick off 2010 with his classic comedy, Fools.  Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic. He's landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. When he arrives he finds people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking upside down to get more cream. The town has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for 200 years and Leon's job is to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too becomes Stupid. But, he has fallen in love with a girl so Stupid that she has only recently learned how to sit down.

YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU

Minimize
A Comedy by Moss Hart and George S Kaufman
Directed by Andrea Campfield
April 22-25, 2010  Curtain 8pm, Sunday matinee 2pm

The Page Players will be closing our season ticket with the family classic, You Can’t Take It With You.  At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys. The plot shows how Tony, attractive young son of the Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine at the Sycamore home on the wrong evening. The shock sustained by the Kirbys, who are invited to eat cheap food, shows Alice that marriage with Tony is out of the question. The Sycamores, however, though sympathetic to Alice, find it hard to realize her point of view. Meantime, Tony, who knows the Sycamores are right and his own people wrong, will not give her up, and in the end Mr. Kirby is converted to the happy madness of the Sycamores, particularly since he happens in during a visit by an ex-Grand Duchess, earning her living as a waitress. No mention has as yet been made of the strange activities of certain members of the household engaged in the manufacture of fireworks; nor of the printing press set up in the parlor; nor of Rheba the maid and her friend Donald; nor of Grandpa's interview with the tax collector when he tells him he doesn't believe in the income tax.

OCTAfest Update from Board Member Andrea Campfield!

Here is the scoop on the four days at Octafest:

First of all, it was a valuable experience.  We met a lot of people, learned a lot about the craft, saw some great theater, and were reminded of how amazing, special, and personal community theater can be.  We, in the communities, who come out of our working worlds to take the stage really are the heart of the art, and we relished the celebration and togetherness that can only be found among artists of like minds and souls.

Second, we had a blast just being together as a small portion of our SSCT family enjoying some time away.  We loved going to the shows and celebrating in the evenings, discussing ideas and all things theater.  We have such a great future ahead...Next time we go, we need to take as many people as possible.  It is a very fun and enlightening time.

Third, while we did not place in the festival, we did get some great feedback, won some fans, met some way cool people, acquired some wonderful play titles and ideas for future shows,  figured out A LOT about festival and competition theater, and we came back with a design award for our set!

So, we can't wait to showcase what we did for the festival and share the competition environment with our audiences.  Looks like we will have two high school level dramatic pieces as well, along with the storytelling experience with Connie Fisher.  Hoping everyone will invite friends, spread the word, and fill those 60 chairs on the stage this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
And...Congratulations to the Steel Magnolias Cast!  Here we go into season four! Thank you for continuing to make SSCT a truly special part of Sand Springs! The adventure continues...
